The educational resources are based on coding principles as established by the American Medical Association and the Current Procedural Terminology. Diagnostic coding is based on Coding Clinic Guidelines, as established by the American Health Information Management Association in association with the American Hospital Association. Recent federal legislation (HIPAA) has mandated that CPT-4 and International Classification of Diseases be used as a standard on electronic claims. Therefore, all records are to be coded to these coding systems.
